Whether you’re making a software switch or diving into the world of network monitoring for the first time, it’s wise to know what you’ll be paying for.

If only it were that easy.

Network Monitoring Software Cost

As you search for software, especially software under the IT management umbrella, problems arise. You can’t find a solution’s pricing information. Then when you finally do, your budget doesn’t buy you what you thought it would.

So what to do?

Rather than sending out dozens of customer support forms and waiting to hear back with a quote, why not see how these prices break down beforehand?

How?

I’ve already done it for you.

Below, I’ll guide you through the most common pricing models, complete with network monitoring options from our Capterra directory.

Let’s begin.

Tiered Model

A popular pricing model across many types of software, tiered models usually break down into various levels or editions that ascend in both functionality and price. More basic packages tend to be less expensive, but they’ll offer fewer features and may cap the number of users or devices allowed to access and use a solution. Tiered models may overlap with other pricing models, like pay-per-device, but still largely breakdown into editions based on available features.

Cost: Tiered models often involve either monthly or annual payments. Monthly payments can be as little $1.34/month per system (with additional costs for optional add-ons) or range between $12-15/month per meter. Annual payments can begin at $1,300/year for a basic edition at 50 seats and peak at more than $40,500 for enterprise-level businesses. Some solutions may not cap the number of users for their premium editions and direct you to a sales rep for a customized quote, though volume discounts are likely available.

One-time License

A one-time license means no monthly installments or annual payments, just a one-time payment at purchase for a permanent license. It’s best for software buyers confident in their decision. Software in this model may break down into various package levels by groups of users or devices, but these levels are usually based on business size and scale rather than available features.

Cost:  Because you’ll only be paying for a solution’s license once, expect a high one-time payment. One-time license network monitoring software can start around $200 for a 5 computer pack and peak at upwards of $18,000 for buyers with 2,000 computers or more. After a set number of users, volume discounts may be available and prices will be broken down per device rather than defined by package level with a set number of users.

Pay-per-device (Honorable Mention)

Pay-per-device rounds out this list of popular pricing models, but only receives an honorable mention since specific pricing often wasn’t available. This model, which can intersect with both tiered or one-time license, operates as its name implies: users will pay based on a specific number of devices rather than package level or feature availability. Pay-per-device solutions may still offer varying package editions or levels for buyers to choose from, but the price ultimately depends on the number of devices.
